N is for No. “No” was my first word (not until I was three). Many of us, including me, have a hard time saying “No” to people. We’ll say more socially acceptable, qualified statements like “maybe” or “I’ll try.”ย
But it is hardest to say “No” to yourself. “No” to the easy, but poor, and ultimately self-destructive choices. “No” to the harming of the flesh. “No” to the numbing of the mind. “No” to playing the victim. “No” to giving up because it’s too hard.
Sometimes, we need to say Yes to saying No.

I have an easy time saying no to myself. But a very hard time saying no to others. I should be a lot nicer to myself and a bit meaner to others — ha! ๐
